Nyaya Health Organization

Nyaya Health was founded in and currently works in Achham District located in the hills of far-western Nepal, one of the poorest regions in South Asia and severely affected by war and poverty. It is home to 250,000 people who previously had no doctor, and who invited NH’s founders to work towards the development of a new public health system. Nyaya (meaning 'justice' in Nepali) delivers free-of-charge hospital- and community-based care via a public-private partnership with the Government of Nepal. NH’s activities in Achham are centered at the Bayalpata Hospital, staffed entirely by Nepalis. In 2010, NH treated over 21,000 patients on a total budget of $166,000.

In parallel, Nyaya utilizes the only open-access operations model in Nepal in order to increase efficiency, collaboration, transparency and accountability while building an accessible platform for replicability to be used by other organizations across the world. Our budget, line-by-line expenditures and plans are all online, and fully accessible to the public at our website, www.nyayahealth.org and wiki.nyayahealth.org
